**FULL DESCRIPTION OF CHARMS**

1. ¾” round coin charm dedicated to civil rights activist and educator, Mary McLeod Bethune. The charm reads, “Bethune, Mary McLeod, 1875 – 1955, Birthplace Mayesville, SC, Great Educator NCNW,” for the National Council of Negro Women.

2. 7/8” light bulb charm which probably represents Lewis Howard Latimer who was instrumental in the invention of the light bulb. Without Latimer’s patented method for making carbon filaments, Thomas Edison would not have been able to complete the job.

3. ¾” round coin charm for Sarah Breedlove a/k/a Madam C.J. Walker. The charm reads, “Madam C.J. Walker, First Black Female Millionaire, Birthplace Delta Louisiana, 1867 – 1919.” Madam Walker created specialized hair care products and was America’s first female, self-made millionaire.

4. ½” peanut charm which most likely represents botanist, chemist and scientist, George Washington Carver who is perhaps best known for the many uses he devised for the peanut.

5. Second charm dedicated to Mary McLeod Bethune. It is a 1”L round.

6. 7/8” comb charm which most likely represents Madam C.J. Walker’s scalp ointment, Madam Walker’s Wonderful Hair Grower.

7. ¾” round coin charm of nurse/midwife, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Bridget Biddy Mason. The charm reads, “From Slave to Wealthy Landowner, Biddy Mason, 1818 – 1891, Birthplace: Mississippi or Georgia.” This once illiterate, slave who worked as a nurse/midwife, walked from Mississippi to California to become a successful entrepreneur and a generous contributor to social causes.

8. 1” charm three-light stop light which most likely is representative of inventor, Garrett Morgan, who invented the first stop light.

9. ½”charm profile “hallmark” silhouette of the designer, Belinda Bond herself, with her characteristic, flowing cornrowed braids, her signature, and on the reverse, her name, and the year, 1994.
