Substantial in beauty and in size, behold this vintage sterling silver Jerusalem Cross with five faceted garnet gemstones. The Jerusalem Cross, also called the Crusaders Cross, is a heraldic Christian symbol consisting of a large cross potent surrounded by four smaller plain crosses, one in each quadrant. The symbolism of the five-fold cross is variously given as the Five Wounds of Christ, Jesus Christ and the four corners of the world to which the Gospel is intended to be shared, or the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John with Christ in the center. Each of the five garnets is surrounded by very beautifully detailed, filigree, beaded cannetille, scroll design.
