Vintage Taxco Mexico Aztec Calendar Sterling Silver Pendant & Necklace

ayquebella.com

Intricately designed, Aztec calendar pendant in sterling silver on 18-inch long, sterling silver, rope chain necklace, skillfully crafted in the Taxco de Alarcón tradition by world-renowned Mexican silver jewelry artisans. The town of Taxco is called the silver capital of the world and is most highly regarded for its quality of craftsmanship and design which is evident in this pretty pendant.

The Aztecs were fantastic record keepers and their sun stone calendar, very similar to the Maya calendar, is a sacred, solar calendar with a remarkably accurate and complex dating system. It was created by skilled mathematicians to mark time and to predict changes that would affect their survival and destiny and was not created to predict a “doomsday” as it is commonly perceived. Instead it reinforced the belief of rebirth, that when one cycle ends another begins.

The calendar design is on one-side of the pendant and both the pendant and the necklace have a shiny finish with a light patina, but may need a light polish if desired.
