Vintage African Sterling Silver Brooch by Birger Haglund

ayquebella.com
Beautiful Sterling Silver brooch by Birger Haglund. Artistically designed brooch adorned with a depiction of “Mother Africa” – the continent of Africa with an African woman surveying her land and all of civilization that emerged from her. This rare and gorgeous brooch has African pyramids to the northeast, a ship sailing in the Atlantic Ocean to the south, and an elephant in the west. Swedish silversmith and artist, Birger Haglund lived in South Africa from 1948 to 1952 and one can tell from his loving design that this piece is a representation of how much he was enamored by the continent. The brooch is coated with a very rich, undisturbed, velvety, natural patina and is hallmarked.
