Brought over from West Africa, the ackee (or akee apple) is a staple in a lot of West Indian households. Those in-the-know about the wonderful flavors of Caribbean cuisine will be very familiar with Jamaica’s national dish, Ackee and Saltfish (also known as codfish). The two make a great hearty breakfast along with dumpling and banana.
