Such an adorable and petite, sterling silver articulated charm of a doctor’s medical bag! This wonderful charm opens to reveal a tiny baby dressed in an enamel “diaper.” The front and back of the doctor’s case have the letters M.D. for Medical Doctor. In days gone, small city and rural family practice doctors made “housecalls” to patients’ homes to administer first aid or emergency care. The contents of the doctor’s little black bag was a veritable mobile pharmacy with medical supplies and medicines as he rushed to the scene or paid a home visit to the sick or infirmed. When asked, Where did I come from? open-mouthed, awe-inspired children were often told stories that they (and their brothers and sisters) were plucked from the doctor’s bag.
